Fishtown in Leeland on the Leelanau Peninsula is a must see and is only an hour and a half drive from the Inn. This quaint little fishing town is 145 years old and has been lovingly preserved. It is still a thriving commercial fishery, that specializes in Whitefish!! The downtown is loaded with wonderful shops, galleries and eateries! They have a fabulous beach, and there are also fishing charters, and charters that will take you to both of the Manitou Islands! The trip up the Leelanau Peninsula winds you through the acclaimed wine country, plenty of wineries to stop and check out. The farmland and open spaces are just beautiful on this awesome day trip. Come up and visit "God's Country."
Charlevoix is a great little beach resort town locate just a 1/2 hour north west of the Applesauce Inn B&B. There are wonderful local shops, galleries and restaurants located in their downtown! Gary and I have gone up there several times, we like to have lunch at Whitneys Oyster Bar! The downtown is just lovely and it is very easy to park and walk around! The pier is just a few minutes from downtown and the walk along the river channel is welcomed after having lunch! If you are game, you can take the ferry over to Beaver Island! Gary and I were there just as the ferry was arriving back from the island! This is a trip that Gary and I want to take!
Great town~great people and good food!

Beaver Island Ferry
The wonders and joys of the Straights of Mackinac....our amazing Mighty Mac bridge and the beautiful iconic Mackinac Island are only an hour and half drive from the Applesauce Inn B&B.
The quaint downtown of Mackinac City offers great little shops, galleries and eateries! Don't forget the famous Mackinac Island Fudge!!! I am a huge fan of the Cornish Pasties that this area is also known for. Jump on a speedy Mackinac Ferry and cruise over to the Island and find your self stepping back in time! No cars are allowed on the Island, so comfy shoes are in order! Or rent a cool beach cruiser bicycle and explore....horse drawn carriages are also available to rent!
Be sure to pack the camera because the views from the Island are worth the trip, as well as the beautiful and well preserved Victorian cottages, and don't forget the world's longest porch that is on the front of the Grand Hotel!
